This afternoon I am adding the Live record from Mofro recorded in Atlanta at The Variety Playhouse. CAR listeners know by now that Georgia Warhorse is one of my favorite funky records and this live record is even funkier. If you can't dig it then you've got no spirit. I only wish that I had been in the audience. Giving "Crackers" a good name.
If "Ho Cake" don't make you hungry - you ain't from around here!

To list all of the songs he penned both by himself and with his wife would take a long time. It's kind of odd that he passes right after Amy Winehouse for whom Ashford and Simpson wrote "Tears Dry On Their Own". Let's just say he was doing it from "I Don't Need No Doctor" to Miss Winehouse and now heaven really has a helluva band.

Grayson Capps played as part of a three person "in the round" show at Eddie's last night and stole the show from two other very talented singers, songwriters, and musicians (Caroline Pond & Ralph Roddenberry). Caroline's violin (fiddle) playing is superb and she seems like she would be a lot of fun to hang around. A few ex-pat Fairhopians were in the crowd in support of Grayson who recently moved back to the Gulf Coast.
Grayson played every third song and offered up Highway42, Rock'nRoll, I See You, Poison, several others and one of my favorites from the "Love Song for Bobby Long" soundtrack Lorraine's Song (see below).
I have a couple of "Live At The Paradiso DVDs" and copies of the current record as well as "Wail & Ride" to give away to some lucky Cosmic American Radio fan. Just drop me an email (cosmicamericanradio@gmail.com) and tell my why you either like CAR or Grayson or both and if it is postable then I'll fire you one off via snail mail. I also have a couple of Kasey Chambers and Jeff Bridges singles to give away if you would like one of those. Enjoy.
I finished listening to Heirloom Music from The Wronglers yesterday and loved it! While Jimmie's "quirky" voice is an acquired taste (and I have not really acquired a taste for it) it is not as quirky on this record. They do some nice covers of classics from A.P. Carter (I'm Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes & Foggy Mountain Top), Jimmie Davis (Columbus Stockade Blues - though my favorite version of this classic is by Rick Nelson), and Flat & Scruggs (If I Should Wander Back).
They do 14 tracks in all and I added all of them with the exception of the last one which I even found too quirky. The release is on Neanderthal Records so listen for it and if you like it - go buy you a copy.

Having just returned from the Alabama Gulf Coast I thought I would add some Alabama-centric tracks to the Cosmic American Radio playlist. The artists in this collection include Amanda Shaw, The Bis-Quits, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Daddy, Drive By Truckers, Emmylou Harris, Faces, John P. Strohm, Old Crow, The Rolling Stones, Justin Townes Earle, Wet Willie, Randy Newman and dozens more. Enjoy.
Here's the DBTs (Jason Isbell version) doing one at the 40 Watt in Athens, GA.
